How to Change Localization from W1 to US in Business Central

Hi everyone,

I’m currently working with a Business Central W1 (WorldWide) database and need to change the localization to US. I understand that localizations can differ significantly in terms of regulatory features, tax setups, and compliance requirements.

I came across a related post where @YUN ZHU mentioned that Microsoft does not support changing from US to W1, and suggested raising a service request.

Before I proceed, I wanted to ask:

  • Is there any official Microsoft documentation or guidance on migrating from W1 to the US localization?

  • Has anyone here successfully performed such a migration?

  • Would raising a Microsoft support request be a viable path for this scenario?

  •  Any advice, experience, or pointers would be greatly appreciated.

  •

Thanks in advance!

Unfortunately, as far as I know, Microsoft will not provide any support even if you submit a SR. . . .
As of now, there is no tool to support version change. You can only export the data manually and then import it into the new environment, just like redeploying a new BC US version.
As for customized extension, you must retest them on the US version to see if they work, because the standard logic is slightly different.

Hope this can give you some hints.
    Thanks.

    Hi
As our colleague Yun points out, there's no such tool. You'd have to consider creating an environment from scratch with the US country code and importing the master data and opening balances if necessary. Then, if you have extensions, you should test and see if they're compatible.

Changing localization from W1 to US in Business Central is not officially supported.  Re-implementation on a US database is recommended. No official guide exists; raise a Microsoft support ticket for advice. Use RapidStart/config packages to migrate data.
