GP9 - Need to Audit user security settings

Posted on by 75

Is there a fairly quick and easy way to generate a report for auditing User account details in GP9. I have been tasked with this job and currently I have to export/save the user data out to a text file and sort through it manually to remove the settings that are not allowed for each user.

I am looking for a report like:

User ID1:

 Role:

Allowed rights

User ID2:

 Role:

Allowed rights

Thanks,

Adam

Hello - I too have been frustrated with the lack of tools for analyzing security in GP.  I have developed a toolset which can automatethis cutting hundrds of hours from a manual review.   It works on GP9 and 10 , English and Spanish versions.

We have tools for reporting on user security as well as tracking when security is being changed. http://www.gofastpath.com The tools work in GP9 as well as GP10

Yea I wish there was something easier.  There may be something, but I am not aware of it.  Security in GP is one of my biggest pains in the *you know*, and this is the best way that I have found to handle it.

Yes it does. I need to go further in depth and document what rights they have in the system as well for a security audit. Basically making sure that everyone has only the rights they need to do thier jobs. I will use this as a start as it looks easier then the method I was using.

    Thanks,

I am not sure about the reporting functionality, although I am sure you could write it with SQL.  What I do in real world practice, is select the security credential and then see who has access to it.  By selecting the security credential on the left hand side, you will see the users with access on the left hand side are CHECKED.  Would this work for you?  I think security in general is extremely time consuming.  This would however, let you at a glance, select one security credential at a time and then choose the users who have access.  Does that make sense?

Yes I am. It allows me to dump a large text file with all settings which I have to manually compile into a report currently. I am looking for a way to possibly query the DB for the information I am looking for so I can build an SRS or Crystal Reports package for this. Unless of course GP has a way built in already that I do not know about.
