Hi Team,
Could you please clarify the difference between the following license types?
I noticed that there is a significant price difference between the standard licenses and the Education Faculty licenses. Is this due to feature differences, or is it purely related to eligibility/pricing models?
Dynamics 365 Business Central Essentials
Dynamics 365 Business Central Essentials (Education Faculty)
Dynamics 365 Business Central Team Members
Dynamics 365 Business Central Team Members (Education Faculty)
Thank you in advance for your support.
License Type | Features/Capabilities | Intended Users | Education Faculty Variant Difference |
---|---|---|---|
Dynamics 365 Business Central Essentials | - Full core functionality: Financial Management, Sales, Purchasing, Inventory, Supply Chain, Project Management, HR, Warehouse Mgmt. - Does not include advanced manufacturing or service management (that’s Premium). | Full users who need access to most of BC’s features. | ✅ Same features, but priced lower for qualified academic institutions (faculty/staff only). |
Dynamics 365 Business Central Essentials (Education Faculty) | Same as above (no feature loss). | Faculty/staff in accredited academic institutions. | Purely a discounted license under Microsoft’s education pricing program. |
Dynamics 365 Business Central Team Members | - Read access to data. - Limited write capabilities (update existing data like timesheets, HR info, approvals). - Can consume reports, run custom apps built on BC. ❌ Cannot perform full transaction posting (sales, purchasing, finance). | “Light” users — e.g., employees who only need to approve, view reports, or update basic info. | ✅ Same rights, lower education pricing. |
Dynamics 365 Business Central Team Members (Education Faculty) | Same as Team Members. | Faculty/staff in accredited institutions. | Discounted license — no feature change. |
