Dynamics GP 2010 + eConnect

Good afternoon,

I've been assigned a task to determine the best solution to integrate a source system with Dynamics GP 2010. I've researched eConnect, however, am largely unfamiliar. I've also looked into software such as Scribe and SmartConnect, which to my understanding are GUIs that leverage eConnect to integrate with GP 2010.

I've come to the conclusion that eConnect is paramount as it seems all software that speaks to GP in some way utilizes eConnect. The caveat here is that I'm unsure on our specific business needs, but general info - pros/cons are much appreciated from anyone who has actual experience with these systems (eConnect, Scribe, SmartConnect). Thank you.

** Extra thanks to anyone who can answer the specific question of, Am I able to write to the Exchange Rates Table in GP 2010? Essentially, I'd like to enter my own Exchange Rates for currencies. But I've been unsuccessful and have researched the eConnect schema definitions to no avail.

RE: Dynamics GP 2010 + eConnect

    Hi jj_luca,

Can you please help for accessing Dynamics GP 2010 from  web application/service?

Please send me any sample application if you have?

I am in a urgent need of it.

I have my windows application running on server which can communicate with GP and i have source code of it.

But when i try this same on my web application I am getting following error:

    1. The caller was not authenticated by the service.

    2. Insufficient authorization to perform this action.

    3. The token provider cannot get tokens for target 'greatplains/.../GPService&;. System.IdentityModel...

Any kind of help would be great!!

    Thank you much in advance!

    Hi

Can anybody send me sample application? How to connect with GP 2010 to create customer/vendor/invoices etc.

I want to use Dynamics GP 2010 in my Web Service/Application using ASP.net.

I just abandoned my hopes of using SCRIBE for a PO Invoice integration project.  I got the trial license and spent weeks fiddling with the installation and configuration.  I found it to be very convoluted.  This is probably because it can do so much, but that makes doing something seemingly simple more complicated than it needs to be.  However, I also found it to have limited abilities with multiple sources for instance header/child records from 2 tables.  The software seems geared toward a single source with all records.  That isn't optimal, at least not for me.  I took some time to learn how to use eConnect in my .NET web applications this spring and it is pretty easy.  I already build a custom app for the same integration I was trying to use SCRIBE for in just 1 day.  I prefer eConnect and custom code over any third party software I know just because then you can get straight to the goal without all the overhead.

I checked the eConnect schema reference and did not see an exchange rate table type though so it doesn't look like you can add rates via eConnect.  You should check with an actual MS tech to confirm though.  If it is true though, then the third party software that uses eConnect wouldn't be able to help with this either.  You may have to investigate updating the tables directly yourself.  I've done that myself prior to learning eConnect.  It is dangerous, and required a lot of testing in a development environment, but it is doable.

    Good luck!

Yes, any software which is loading data into GP will use either eConnect or the Web Services (which themselves use eConnect).

Scribe and similar do provide interfaces for loading data into GP. The answer as to which would be best depends on what you're wanting to do.

We have some applications which communicate with eConnect directly rather that going via a third party link.

I don't believe there is an eConnect node for the exchange rate tables.
