GP2013 R2 Workflow not working in GP UI or SharePoint UI

I have downloaded both the Workflow Installation and Administrator Guide

http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj673202(v=gp.30).aspx

Attempting to use one server for Demo and Proof of Concept

Configuration Specs:

                Windows Server 2008 R2

                SQL Server 2008 R2 Standard

                SharePoint Foundation 2010

                GP 2013 R2 + MicrosoftDynamicsGP12-KB2949693-ENU

                GP Web Services

                GP Workflow installed (MDGP2013_Workflow_FullInstall_withSP2)

Installed as recommended from guide to use default SharePoint – 80 site and let it create the App Pool and configure.  This stops the Default Web Site so SharePoint-80 works running off port 80.

Have SQL, Sharepoint, GP Web Service and Workflow running under their own service accounts

I am able to configure and test workflows somewhat from the GP UI ( GP > Administration > Setup > Workflow Maintenance ) but that offers a few selections for Payroll, Purchasing and Project.

I went into GP > Administration > Setup > Workflow for SharePoint and checked “Activate Workflow for Fabrikam”

I can easily navigate to http://<my server>/sites/DynamicsGPWorkflow but when I try to do anything from Tasks to Administration (Left Pane), it errors out.  I have access to Administration but when setting anything up and attempt to save, it errors out.

This is the second attempt to install from scratch in order to get it to work.

NOTE: Yes, SharePoint is required to run either from the GP UI or SharePoint UI.  If its not installed, GP will not display the options under GP > Administration > Setup.

Only email notifications are sent to approvers if using a workflow from GP UI.

The approve option is not enabled in the ribbon for any Payroll, Purchasing or Project workflow submitted.

RE: GP2013 R2 Workflow not working in GP UI or SharePoint UI (Is it suppose too?!?!?!)

Mahmoud,  We have a few deployments out in production using GP Business Portal and knowing that there is going to be a design change, with up coming versions, are looking into the options of workflows available.  Don't know if we can use one or the other or both because most of our customers want the Requisitions, Purchase, Vendor and GL.

As mentioned exactly what Bharat and you referenced, we understood of how it works but we aren't seeing the functionality.  For instance, the workflow options aren't available from the GP UI unless SharePoint is installed.  The "approval" button in the ribbon doesn't function at all.  Then if trying to use the SharePoint UI version, nothing works.  Example, making any changes from Administration won't save, can create a workflow but it won't save, modifying the Calendar won't save changes.  From the Reports section, we just generate blank reports probably due to workflows can't be saved.

This is our second attempt configuring out on one server for demo/proof-of-concept and the results are the same.  We thoroughly reviewed the only documentation we could find available and its leaving us puzzled to say the least.

Prior to GP 2013 R2, workflow for requisitions and time cards was deployed on the Business Portal level, which requires SharePoint. Business Portal itself is built on the the SharePoint. Now with the release of GP 2013 R2, the workflow configured on the business portal have been replaced with a newly independent workflow engine which is deployed only by installing Dynamics GP. It doesn't require SharePoint at all. You may check GP 2013 R2 new workflow

As for the SharePoint workflow, it is totally a different workflow which is dependent on SharePoint , it can not be configured without deploying SharePoint.

Are you in the process of planning or choosing on which one to be deployed ?

    Your feedback are highly appreciated,

"Workflow Maintenance" should available once GP 2013 R2 installed, nothing to do with SharePoint, I did setup without SharePoint successfully.

Would like to use both and haven't run across anything that states either/or.   As with SharePoint UI, I can access it, Companies are showing to select from in Reports, When trying to save anything from Tasks, Docs, My Delegation, My Alerts, Select Workflow Type in Admin, New Workflow in Admin or Modify Calendar.... it doesn't save.

That is our understanding but from previous attempts, the options are not available when navigating to GP UI : GP > Administration > Setup > Workflow Maintenance.  Once SharePoint is installed, the options become available.  If you could point out to any documentation that shows how, it would be appreciated.

For GP 2013 R2, you don't need SharePoint for following workflows,

    Purchase Order Approval,

    Purchase Requisition Approval

    Payroll Timecard Approval

    Project Timesheet Approval

First you need to decide which one you want to use which really is determined by which type of workflows you want to demo.

As for what you are doing in SharePoint have you setup the workflow already or are you trying to? Need more information as to the exact issue you are running into.
