Changing Decimal Places from five back to two

Posted on by 42

I am new to Dynamics GP.  Yesterday I made a change to the decimal places which resulted in the checks showing the five decimal places.  This is not ideal.  I need your advice in determining the best way to correct this.  Write a new report for the check or reverse the change back to the two decimal places.

the install has many batches unposted but they all have two decimal places or if it contains five the last three digits are zero.

Please advise.

    Hi Janelle

I hope that you followed my first recommendation and that was to try this out in a test environment first.

You can try running this sql script as it will return all the tables that have the decimal places currency field and what its value is.

You may want to make sure that all the tables are set correctly for the currency id's

-- This script is provided "AS IS"

    SELECT * FROM sysobjects o, syscolumns c

    WHERE o.id = c.id AND o.type = 'U' AND c.name = 'DECPLCUR'

    ORDER BY o.name

When I had this issue with a client before, I didn't come across the issues that you are experiencing.  It worked fine for us and they were able to continue on as before.

If you are still finding issues, then I would suggest you contact your partner for assistance as there may be additional items that you are not or do not know of in your system that could be causing you these issues.

    Hi Jeffrey,

IT would have run the reconcile process in the Purchasing, Sales & Financial modules.

    Hi Janelle

After you ran the sql script to change the decimal places, did you run the reconcile process in Purchasing, Sales & Financial?

    This is another error message:

**ERROR: The status of the line item has been changed from Released to Closed

    Good Day Jeffrey,

We were able to use the fix to restore to 2 decimal places.  We ran some reports which have brought back various errors.  Can you provide any advice on the best way to rectify.  An example would be

    xxxxxxxxxxx Invoice

Tax Amount was adjusted from $256.75 to $0.00.

Originating Document Amount was adjusted from $1,510.75 to $1,354.00.

Originating Account Amount was adjusted from $1,510.75 to $1,354.00.

Amounts have been altered but this is the gist of one of the message.

Thank you Jeffry.  I appreciate your response.

I will look into it now.

    Hi Janelle

This is a very tricky fix.  It can be done but I highly recommend you first try this in a test environment.

Here is a link on some instructions written by Ian Stewart on this topic

Don't forget to run the reconcile process on all modules after you make the change.

If you don't feel comfortable or unsure, you should definitely engage your Dynamics GP partner for this.
