Migration from On-premise to Online

Hello Microsoft Community,

We are planning to migrate our Dynamics CRM from On-Premise 2016 version to an Online 1710 version,

We looked up on the internet for possible ways to achieve that and we came across some data integration tools such as : Scribe, Kingswaysoft, ...

Since we have a data base of barely 10 thousand record, we are considering the option of using the Dynamics CRM Exporting/Importing Wizard (it's the simplest and the cheapest way to migrate the data in our case).

We tested the import of few records from our On-Premise database to a sandbox instance on the Cloud, and we wonder if it is not just a massive data creation tool intended for end users.

My question: Do you recommend the use of Dynamics CRM Wizard or is it more suitable to use a data integration tool even for few data records and minimimal customization?

Thank you in advance for your help.

Regards,

    Hello Meriem,

There is no issue/drawbacks on using the data import/export wizard of CRM to migrate your data.

If you have limited amount of data and no complexity(like complex multiple entities relationships), then this is the most cost effective approach.

Apart from this, you can have some tools useful from XRMToolbox.

    Hello,

According to Microsoft recommendations, an import of 20,000 records using the "Data import wizard" is reasonable.

Also note that for the data import wizard, the maximum size of .zip files is 32 MB; for other file formats, it is 8 MB.

To summarize, given the size of the data you want to migrate. You can use the Data import wizard
