Creating a Purchase order for a closed financial period using eConnect

Is it possible to create a new purchase order in a closed financial period when integrating with eConnect? You are able to create a purchase order from Dynamics GP even when a period is closed but when integrating using eConnect it fails on the error that the financial period is closed. Is there a way around this? (Other than opening the periods)

New POs should be created with today's date. Are you including prepayments or deposits with the POs? Is there a significant delay between the creation of the PO and payment and posting it to GP?
