Hi Friends,

When user tried to open attachment in AX 2012 through VPN connection, it throws error "There is problem with Adobe reader". See screen shot.

If user remote to server, can open it without problem.

Any one experience same problem? any solution?

To me it seems to not be related to VPN or AX, instead the Adobe reader on your computer can't open the file that is attached to AX.

Do you have an Adobe Reader on the computer that you use when you login through VPN?

If you open the attachment on remote server, save it, copy it to your computer (that you use with VPN), can you open the document?

    Hi River,

It does seem like an issue with Adobe. You may want to re-install Adobe reader or open pdf files with a different program. You can try changing the default programs for opening pdf files and see if that helps. Please check this link for the steps.

we all have adobe installed, this is wide spread problem among our users. We haven't checked all users, but, I will try to reinstall adobe.

    Hi River,

Do you have any other attachments (apart from pdf)? Maybe you can add a word file and see if you can open that fine from your system. This way you can rule out a network issue.

I removed old version, installed latest PDF, same problem. and I can open PDF file outside AX without problem.

    Hi River,

Could you please share a screenshot of the "Archive directory" setup in document management? Navigation : Organization administration > Setup > Document management > Document management parameters.

Please check if a different path is set for different Document types as well - Organization administration > Setup > Document management > Document types.

    Hi Ganriver,

Is it working without VPN? Did it work before? Are you using PDF viewer in as a standalone app or embedded in the browser?

You may need to ask a question on the adobe community.

There are also some solutions\workaround exists like disable "Protected Mode at Startup" or whitelist adobe app in firewall\antivirus

we did find it works for some users, and also, if user click 'open attachment' instead of 'show file' button, it works too, 'open' open file outside of AX, 'show file' open pdf file inside AX. That's difference.

So it's probably more related to PDF itself.

    Thanks everyone's input.
