Collation of the Company Database

Posted on by 369

I have created a new company and completed the setup. As I am checking the collation, it is Latin Case Sensitive, Accent Sensitive. Although, the SQL Server collation is Arabic_CI_AI

My question is,

Where to specify the collation while creating a new Dynamics NAV database ? It seems there is no option.

Furthermore, when I go to the Development Environment, and click on Alter Database. I try to change the collation, but it says you can not because the "Validate Collation" should already be checked before installation

Your help Please.

You do not have to do a new installation. You can simply do it using Development environment.

Click on File -> Database -> New

Then it will ask for your Authentication.

    Then click Ok

In the next open window you can set the DB settings. Under the Collation tab you can set the Collation you required.

Try this walkthrough of creation of new databases: msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh165743(v=nav.90).aspx

    Check collation tab: msdn.microsoft.com/.../hh168537(v=nav.90).aspx

Then my question is, supposing I am doing a fresh installation now. From where can I configure the collation of the new company ?

I can't find any option under Server Components, Database Components nor client components

I think this might answer your question :

If you set the Validate Collation check box, then collation languages that run with a different non-Unicode code page from your system non-Unicode code page are filtered out of the Language drop-down list. An example scenario of when you might want to choose a collation language that has a different code page from your system code page is if you want to prepare a Japanese database on a Danish computer.

You cannot change the collation directly in the current database. To change the collation, you must create a new database that uses the correct collation, and then export the data from the old database and import it to the new database. For more information, see How to: Alter Databases

    Guys

It seems you have not read my questions properly. I have followed the steps above, but there is a check box (Validate Collation) which is not checked. Once I click on process, a warning message pops up and prevents me from proceeding saying that "You can not change collation if the "Validate Collation" is not already checked. "

    Your assistance is highly appreciated

You can change the Collation using Dynamics NAV Development Environment.

    Steps :

    1. Open the Database using Development Environment

    2. Click on File -> Database -> Alter

    3. Under the Collation tab you can change the Collation.

    4. Click Ok, once you select the correct Collation

    * Make sure to do this when the DB is in single user mode to avoid conflicts.
