Solution for Adding New Fields to Activity Entity?

I am aware that I myself cannot add any new fields to the activity entity but is there a solution that will allow me to add additional fields?  I want to add an additional meeting form that contains fields that pull info from the Company entity so that when someone adds this specific meeting activity from within the account page, the activity is auto-populated for most of those fields and then for the non-auto populated fields have them as Lookup fields.  Creating new fields just to get this to work can't be the only way, can it?  Even then I would have to strip out the existing fields in the Company form and replace with these newly created fields just to get the whole process to work which creates a cascading effect across all the entities that use those stripped fields.  Seems redundant when I should be able to add fields to the activity entity that I don't have a problem with being shared across all the activity types.

    David,

You cannot create custom field in the Activity entity.

You can only create custom field to the individual activity entity, such as create fields to Appointment, to Task, to Phone Call, etc.

    Thank yiu.

As Aileen says, you can only add fields to the entities representing actual Activity Types (eg: Appointment, Task, Letter, Email, Phone Call, etc).

Or alternatively you could define your own custom activity type and add your fields to it?

Regarding mapping over fields from the Company entity, if this can't be achieved using normal field mappings across the relationship (I can't double check this right now as I don't have my development environment with me), then you'll need to implement this using JavaScript/Plugins/Real Time Workflows.

Apologies, let me clarify because neither of those responses seem to answer my question.  The main activity entity contains standard fields that are shared across Meeting, Appt, Task, Letter, etc.  The Company entity has standard fields as well such as address, State/Province, City, etc.  I want to add those standard fields in the company entity to the main activity entity therefore making the company fields available for Meeting, Appt, Task, etc.

Even if I create a custom activity entity, for ex. "Dealer Visit", the available fields to choose for the form under that custom entity are still restricted to the fields listed under the main activity entity.

I am not trying to create any new entities or new fields, I simply want to make the standard fields in the company entity available for the existing standard activity entities.

You cannot customise (eg: add fields to) the standard Activity entity. You will need to add your fields to each entity representing each Activity type, and then implement automation to copy the appropriate field values from the Company to the child Appointment, Task, Phone Call, Email or Letter record as required.

If the purpose of your requirements is simply to provide the user with a quick way of viewing information on the parent Company record, when they are editing a particular Appointment, Task, Email, Phone Call or Letter records, then you might want to consider creating a Quick View Form on your Company entity and placing this on your Email, Appointment, Letter, Phone Call or Task forms as required.

Did you remember to add the permisions for the cutomized entities to the security roles of users who are going to access them?

I am trying to create a new date field on phone call activity in CRM 2016 and it's throwing error.

Unhandled Exception: System.ServiceModel.FaultException`1[[Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk.OrganizationServiceFault, Microsoft.Xrm.Sdk, Version=8.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=31bf3856ad364e35]]: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Microsoft Dynamics CRM has experienced an error. What could be reason for this?

Is there anything else regarding the error message (if you click download log file)?

I understand that there is no way to add new fields to the activity entity.  However, we are needing to create different activity types for some of our workflows.  As a piece of this, the activities are tied to a user group and have various assignees who accept ownership of and work the various activities assigned to the case.  Some of these activities are created without an assignee and are picked up by the user in a queue-type fashion.

What would be an effective means to be able to group these different activity types and still be able to filter by either the group assignment or the assignee working each one (one assignee may work more than one type of activity)?
