Find item number used in all finished products

I have an user looking for best method to identify how to find specific item number in a finished item. He would like to be able to identify all finished items that contain item #123456 as an example. We work in a manufacturing facility and would like to find out when item #123456 is in a finished good.

I have tried to use the "where used" tab but I get the phantom numbers and not the finished goods number.

    Hello Greg U,

    Can you define what you identify as "finished good"?

    Is a finished good one that has a BOM, route assigned or what is the criteria to identify a finished product?

    Also, can you help us understanding how you use the terms item, finished item, product, finished product?

    Some screenprints might help.
