    RE: change storage dimension group

    Hi,

Honestly I wouldn't try and 'unravel' the logic AX has implemented (especially if this is a production/live system that you are referring too).

If it isn't a production system then make sure you don't make the same mistake in live :)

I would suggest creating a new Item and setting a restriction on the old item (This can be done through the default order settings Product information > Manage inventory > Default order settings > Stopped).

    RE: change storage dimension group

No its not recommended even if you do it some how you will fall into data integrity issue.

may you can try with data analysis

identifying which all data are affected and how to update them related to new inventory dim id

doing this will take lots of effort depending on how much data you have.

so once you identify the data, then may be you can write a job to re generate the inventory dim Id

Please verify and update if this solution is workable for you.

    RE: change storage dimension group

    Hi,

Essentially you cannot change the storage group.

    See the msdn page: technet.microsoft.com/.../aa549043.aspx

If a product has transactions, the storage dimension group and the tracking dimension group cannot be changed. However, if the product is not used in any transactions, the following rules apply:

For a shared product, the storage dimension group and the tracking dimension group can be changed if the product has not been released.

For a released product, you must follow these steps to change the storage dimension group and the tracking dimension group:

    1. Delete the setup of the storage dimension group and the tracking dimension group for the shared instance of the product.

2.Delete the setup of the storage dimension group and the tracking dimension group for the released instance or instances of the product.

    3. Select a new storage dimension group and a new tracking dimension group for the shared instance of the product.

The new storage dimension group and the new tracking dimension group are replicated in the released instance or instances of the product.

    Regards
