Synchronize Report Server - insufficient rights to update report Rights on Report Server.

We deployed a new server AND upgraded from 2011 FP1 to SL 2015 CU1 all at the same time.  I have things working but I am trying to add a new user and the SL user screen through out an error that said to synchronize the report server.

I went to Database Maintenance Screen (98.290.00) connected to the database and clicked on Synchronize Report Server - I am logged in as me - I am also the sysadmin.

I received the following error:

The user has insufficient Rights to Update Report Rights on Report Server.   You will need to eecute this application as a user that is associated with an SL user that has rights to the RSDEPLO screen.

I can't seem to get it to work.

Any ideas?

It might be because the default user associated to your Windows account in SL does not have enough access to run the utilities. The system chooses the default SL account, so if your AD account is associated with both SYSADMIN and a regular non-admin user, then it is attempting to use that non-admin account if it is set to default.

Look for the "Windows User Maintenance" screen to manage this.

    Hi Ann,

For the error that you are seeing you will need to be the user that is specified within the SQL Server Reporting Services Configuration Manager and you will need to have report server update rights within Dynamics SL. If you do not match either of those you will continue to receive the error.

This one trips me up ALL the time when I am upgrading from one SQL server to another.  This error will get thrown when the RS_ReportServer table in the SystemDB has references to the old SQL server, e.g. ReportManagerURL (http://oldsqlserver/Reports) and ReportServerURL (http://oldsqlserver/ReportServer).  Even after running the Microsoft Dynamics SL ReportServer Configuration utility in Windows Administrative Tools and updating the URLs in that screen, it will not update the existing URLs but instead add new ones.  So you still get the error when running the ReportServer Sync.  What works is to first run a SQL update replacing the existing URLs with the correct ones, then running the RS Sync or DB Security Sync.  Something like:

    UPDATE <SystemDB>.dbo.RS_ReportServer SET ReportManagerURL = REPLACE(RTRIM(ReportManagerURL),'oldsqlserver', 'newsqlserver'), ReportServerURL = REPLACE(RTRIM(ReportServerURL),'oldsqlserver', 'newsqlserver')

Maybe this will help someone else down the road (or maybe the next time I forget and do a google search).
