Account to Contact field relationship

We have an Account/Company field called 'Account Type' so that we can identify that the account type is for example 'Architect' or 'End User'. We need all contacts for that Company to inherit this 'Account Type'.

We need this to happen for new contacts that we add, but more importantly for existing contacts as well.

What is the best method to do this?

RE: Account to Contact field relationship

    Hi Raptor,

The simplest way is that create a global option sets ‘Account Type’ and create a workflow, which can help you solve all problems.

1.Create a global option sets and add it to the account and contact form.

    (1) Go Settings > Customization > Customize the system > Option Sets.

    (2) Go Settings > Customization > Customize the system > Entities (Account & Contact) > Fields.

    (3) Go Forms to add it to main form.

    (4) Save and Publish all customization.

    2.Create a workflow.

    (1) Go Settings > processes.

    (2) Add condition and update contact step.

    (3) Save and Active the workflow.

    3.Test.

    (1) For creating new contact, whether you're creating from sub-grid of account or create directly in contact view page, the contact account type will be filled automatically.

    (2) For existing contact records, you need select them and run the workflow just created.

Select contacts you want and expand flow to select the workflow.

Wait for minutes and refresh current page, only account has selected account type, contact account type will be filled.

RE: Account to Contact field relationship

    Hi,

you need to do following :

    1. To handle case when someone create Contact from the Account - Edit account and contact relationship and set mapping for this field so that what ever value is for account will go to contact.

    Here is the link: docs.microsoft.com/.../map-entity-fields

    2. When user create contact directly and select Account from the lookup- You need to write JS if you want as soon as select account the option set should be populated.

    refer my post: himbap.com/.../

you can also use workflow but only if you are using global optionset for the Account Type.

    3. Open Advanced find look for Contact, add Account Type from the parent customer for the account as well as Account type (you can add field from the parent entity) for your Contact entity, export it copy account type from account field to contact and import back to CRM.

This step can be also done using on demand workflow but only if you are using global option set field.

Let me know if you need more details.
