Table Relation based on field or RecId?

Hi,

When we create two tables, when should we put the relation between the two tables based on a normal field and when should we put the relation based on RecId?

Are there preferences on when to do it like this or that? And what are the advantages/disadvantages of both ways?

Hi, For normal table relations, my understanding is that its based on primary index of table with which we are creating a table relation. If primary index is surrogate key, we create relation with RecId and if not then we create with a table field like CurrencyCode field in Currency table. Suppose we have custom table and want to create table relation with currency table. We can still create RecId relation with Currency table but its beneficial to create with currencyCode because we can export currencyCode data along with other fields from our custom table when required, also it can be used directly in reporting, forms etc.

Hi Junior,

My suggestion will be creating RecId relation - Create an RefRecId EDT and Map the reference table as 1st table.

Now drag and drop the EDT to the second field which will create relation automatically based on the reference table.

It will be advantage as it will have automatic lookup and hyperlink also available which will be easy to navigate.
