How to link to a contact search result?

Hi,

I would like to be able to generate links that will take the user to a 'search results' page.  As a simple example, imagine a link that goes to sales -> contacts and the 'search for records' box is already filled out with "John Smith", and all of the "John Smith" records are available to be perused and selected.

So far in my research, it seems that this might be a difficult request, which surprises me.

Example:

contact_5F00_search_5F00_results.png

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Regards,

Rich

    Hi Rich

It is not possible as far as I aware.

you cant get the view link for quick find search because it has no record in the database view and it is only in transition of memory only. Whereby the link of a view in CRM needing an ID, ID means need to be stored in the CRM db first.

    As workaround:

    1. Go to Adv find

    2. Define the search, name contains = John Smith

    3. Save the view as personal view

    4. Share it out to others

    Or

Go to customization, choose entities, choose View create new View with criteria Name or full name contains John Smith

    Then Publish it

You refresh the page, select the view you just created, then you copy the link by clicking email the link.

    Hope this helps.

    THanks.

    Hi Aileen,

Thanks so much for attempting an answer.  The entity I want to do this for has over 75000 possible names.  Wouldn’t that mean that I’d have to create over 75000 views, and then as new names are added/changed/deleted, I would need to keep the views in sync?

A shame because it seems to be such a simple thing to want to do.  I can’t think of another web app that I’ve used or written that can’t accept some sort of &querystring=blah as part of the URL.

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Rich

As far as I know there is no way of doing this a support way, but you can use a url such as :

    http://<server>/MultiEntityQuickfind/multiEntityQuickFind.aspx?pagemode=iframe&sitemappath=SFA%7cMyWork%7cnav_dashboards&text=<SEARCH TEXT>

    Hope this helps,

    Scott

    Hi Scott,

Thanks for taking the time to reply.  I don't seem to have that URL on my server.  We've got CRM 2013 on-prem.  Is that URL only on a later version, or is it some custom code?

    Thank you.

    Regards,

    Rich

Yes - this url is for CRM2015 only. Sorry!

You could use my CRM2013 multi-entity search community.dynamics.com/.../multi-entity-search-for-crm2013

The code could be adapted very easily to pre-populate the search box from the query string.

    Hi Scott,

Thanks for the clarification.  I think we're going to upgrade to crm2015 soon, so I'll hold off until then and use the link you suggested when we get there.

    Regards,

    Rich
