Adding Mail Merge template with content restriction

I am trying to create a mail merge template, using a Word Document. I had already created the document with many restricted sections, (so our sales team could not alter the legal terms), but once I try to put merge fields in, the options are all greyed out. Is it not possible to create a mail merge document with restricted sections?

I also have the same dilemma. I am creating a certificate template with restricted contents. However upon enabling the restriction and saving the document, I cannot select the recipient to start the mail merge. Apparently, "Mailings" is disabled once the document is restricted. Is there any way around this?

I created the document in Word & set the restrictions at that time. I then saved it & uploaded it into CRM. If I save it with no restrictions it works fine.

    Hi Vickiek,

Can you please elaborate on how you've created these restricted sections? If you remove them are the options still grayed out?
