CRM 2016 On Premise: Social Pane Filter - Email filter is blank

Strange one this.

When I use the filter on the social pane to select only emails, nothing is returned.

If I select Tasks and so on then they ARE returned.

Selecting both Tasks and Emails usually brings back both just fine.

The emails are of course present by default it is simply the filter that seems to be broken.

This is on premise: 8.1.1.1005

I am looking at the Case form.

Any ideas?

    Seems to be an indexing issue.  I have discovered that this issue was worse in the past and some index configuration got it to the point where it "only" takes 33 seconds to execute the retrieve.  Seems strange that this issue is not affecting general use of the system (i.e. other advanced finds and so on).  I can only see the problem in the Social Pane.

    Actually, I was typing this and went back to the form and the Emails appeared.  Tested again and it takes about 33 seconds for 8 Emails to be shown.

    Seems to be more of a performance problem.

    Is this a bug or can I correct it by tweaking the database indexes or something?
