Greetings everyone:

I very new to CRM and I need some help. I'm taking over the CRM development and I'm not sure why we need Office 365 professional with 10 users.

In other words I'm not sure how CRM is connected with Office 365. Do we need 10 developers or can I use just the basic user.

I hope these make sense.

Office 365 is not required for Dynamics CRM Online.

Office 365 does not control the development. The primary relationship between Office 365 and Dynamics CRM is they are both on the same platform. There is also a single administration are for Office 365 and CRM for licenses/subscriptions and managing users.

If you want integration with your CRM and SharePoint Online, Lync, and Yammer then having a subscription to both is a compelling and affordable option.

For CRM development, you will need a CRM Professional license which provides full access to the CRM administration and customization areas. A basic user will not allow you access to these areas.

Whether or not you need 10 Professional licenses depends on the needs of the rest of your users. If they will need to use most of the functionality of CRM then they will need Professional licenses as well. In the administration area you can configure security to block end users from admin and customization areas of CRM.

Here is a chart that helps explain the differences between the license types.
