Gift Cards - preferred barcode format?

Our barcode scanners can read a number of different formats, such as Code 39, Code 128, UPC-A, EAN-13. We need to order gift cards for our new POS system. 

Is there a preferred barcode format for RMS gift cards?

Also, anything to avoid based on your bad experience?

    Turns out the barcode doesn't matter as long as our scanner can read it.
