Sales Commissions - Hiding

So, I have been asked by the Controller of one of our clients if it is possible to hide the Commission amounts on the Sales Documents.  You know where in the posting distribution you see the Journal entry created at the time of posting the sales invoice.

Now my first answer was no - and because that is the time when that value is created, it is the only time ( i know of ) to select, change the GL Accounts.

So I said no and I had my reason why it could not be hidden at that time.  Now I have sat back and thought about it for a bit and decided I best ask those around me that might know of a better way to deal with the question.

We are not looking for or expecting to buy more software, we are not looking to re-design or re-develop the sales process - says the client - we want to hide from those few people that really don't need to see it - the amount that the sales people are earning.

Question:  with the basic information provided, does anyone have a suggestion on 'hidding' the sales commission amounts from staff that don't need to see it?  There is a production manager, sales clerk and shipping / warehouse person that all see the invoices at some point or another, and the desire of the Controller and Sr. Management is to not have them seeing what is being paid out.

Thanks for your feedback.

There are a variety of different industries that use commissions as employee incentives, either by creating commission-only positions, or by adding the potential to earn commissions in addition to an employee’s regular salary liteblue

    Bill,

Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. It will default the account in, but will not let the user view it in distributions if they do not have security access to that specific account. It's the only record-level security available in GP (that I know of).

So, Leslie are you saying that it will create the correct Journal entry in the distribution window but it will not show the amounts that are being generated?

I have not tried this - I have used Field Security - but not Account - thanks I will have to play with this and will post the results.

    Hi Bill,

I think you can do exactly this with Account-Level security.

So I considered that but the problem is that where commission appears in the in Distribution window - where the Inventory Account and the Cost of Goods Account and the related dollars appear.

So I was not sure how I might apply Field Level Security to that situation.

    Hello Bill

Have you thought about applying field level security on the field in question?

    Best to ya!
