Outlook and calendar tracking

I untracked a calendar event in Outlook, however, CRM is retaining the activity record. Is this by design?

Other CRM systems I’ve worked with would alert the user if they would like to untrack/keep or untrack/delete the activity from CRM.

I have the same question (0)

OK, when you untracked the appointment/meeting in the Outlook desktop client, which of these 2 buttons did you press?

OK, if you want to delete the record in the activity timeline, then you need to click the other button for "delete".  If you click on the "untrack" button the addin will stop tracking any changes you do to the record in Outlook, but the activity record in D365 will remain.
