client install

When installing the client portion of Dynamic SL 7.0, which we're doing off a mapped network drive of the server, do you need to be logged in as a Domain Admin to install on a client computer?  Or are local admin rights sufficient?

Thanks,

Kevin

Thanks, looks like it was a rights issue, it is finally working.  Did a number of things yesterday and Friday, and not exactly sure which one got it to work.  I recreated his account in SL, removed his network account from the sql server, couple other things, which didn't fix it, then added back in his network account into the sql server, and now it works.  Thanks again for all your help.

Service pack 2 should have the hotfix that we discussed previously.

It could possibly be a rights issue too.  Does the user have the same rights as the other users to the SL folder?  Is this a windows or SQL authenticated database?

Thanks, I am getting close to bringing someone in, and will keep you in mind if it comes to that.  I have installed Dynamics service pack 2, shouldn't that include the bug fix from that above mentioned hotfix?

Interestingly, every other user we've tested can log into Dynamics SL fine on this computer, except for this particular user.  And he gets the same error if he logs into another computer and tries.  Something with his network account maybe?  very strange.

    Hi Kevin,

You have the right hotfix and service pack.  Did you install both on the server and workstations?  If so, I'm not sure what else it could be without actually looking at the environment.  I work for NexusTek and I'm a Dynamics SL consultant.  If you'd like, you can contact me and I'll be happy to create a remote session with you and try to get this resolved for you.  My contact information is below.

Re: Re: Re: Re: client install

Thanks again Tejal, I really appreciate it.

I had heard about that issue, so I had downloaded SL sp 2, which I assumed would have fixed this issue, all of the above issues are occuring w/ SL sp 2 installed.  Although after uninstalling and reinstalling as the user (who is local admin), I'm getting a slighty diff error, "Attempting to read or write protected memory".

So not sure where this leaves me, this article claims sp 2 fixes it

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/support/selfsupport/hottopics/sl09hottopic2.htm?printpage=false&stext=17220

but hasn't fixed it for me, and the hotfix, which i believe is this one

    https://mbs.microsoft.com/CMS/Templates/document/Download.aspx?NRMODE=Published&NRNODEGUID={86ED13E0-C07E-4582-9651-8CAC2808C678}&NRORIGINALURL=/customersource/support/downloads/hotfixes/h701_12361sy.htm?printpage=false&stext=17220&NRCACHEHINT=Guest&printpage=false&stext=17220&wa=wsignin1.0

doesn't look like I can put on SP 2.  hmmm  Not sure where to turn now, ugh.

    Re: Re: Re: client install

In response to the 'Dynamics has encountered a problem' error message, this is a known bug with 7.0,.  It has to do with a Microsoft .Net 3.5 sp1 update.  There is a hotfix for it but I believe you have to have 7.0 sp1 installed.  The bug number is 17220 and you download the hotfix from CustomerSource.  If you don't want to install the hotfix you can uninstall all of the .net updates except 1.1 and then reinstall 2.0.  This also fixes the issue and you don't have to install the hotfix on the server and all workstations.

Also, make sure if you're using Windows authentication that the user has an id already setup within SL.

    Re: Re: client install

Thanks, I thought that was the case, but I wasn't sure, so I logged in as a Domain Admin and installed it that way.  Now when I log in as local user (who is a local admin, but Not domain admin), Solomon won't work.  I can't even get it to fire up, just get a 'Microsoft Dynamics SL has encountered a problem and needs to close error'.  Also get a  .Net runtime error in event log.  If a log into computer as domain admin, it works fine.

So I figured some kind of local security setting got set when I installed as domain admin, that local user doesn't have, so I thought to reinstall as local user, but when I do, get a 'Install error, no valid source could be found'  Basically error says it can't find msi file on mapped network path.  I can clearly navigate thru the mapped path and see the file, so can't figure out what problem is.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Re: client install

    Hi Kevin,

Local admin rights are sufficient to do a client install.   Sincerely, Tejal PatelBusiness Solutions Consultant
