Generate Item Barcode having Batch, Serial number and Quantity

Dear All,

Is it possible to generate barcode of an item having batch+serial (tracking dimension) and quantity?

My item has Kg as UOM, Item model group FEFO (First Expiry First out) and serial, batch as its tracking dimension. I want to create barcode for this item, so that it can be scanned while tendering at POS.

For this purpose, I tried creating a barcode mask having four information i.e. Item +  Batch + Serial + and its weight (i.e. Quantity). I checked and found that AX 2012 neither have barcode mask for Batch and Serial. So i rather created a simple barcode using Item + Quantity masks as shown highlighted in below screeshot.

When i tried creating item barcode using ManageInventory->Barcode button on item form. It gives me following error and does not recognize Q character that is the item quantity:

Do you any idea how i can create and use barcode having:

1. Item and Quantity

2. Item, Batch and Quantity

What technique i shall use to configure such barcode and is it possible in AX or not. Or do i need to customize, if yes how? Your response will be highly appreciated.

    I am bit confused about generating item barcode having Item and Quantity. For example, i have 10 pound cheese in my inventory. A customer came and requested 1 1 pound cheese, i generated barcode for item at runtime and tender it on POS.

    I have no pre-generated item barcode and i have associated barcode mask of item & quantity with item. Will it work?

    Secondly i have learnt that application identifier are used to identify information contained in the barcode. For example item and quantity will have its own identifier in barcode, which system will automatically parse to identify item. Do AX exhibit functionality to parse and identify quantity, batch etc. information contained in item barcode?

    There is a missing Technical Implementation for Bar code in Retail in (Batch Serial Number), But if your  are planning deliver your customer high quality Bar code Generating Tool i suggest that

    1. Customize the Bar code Masking and Generating in AX back office so that it will include extra info like item Batch  Serial Number

    2.Customize a sample tool (using C#) that retrieve item bar code info from ax using AIF   then using any Bar code designing SDK you can design your own Label Print Reports and Bar code Reports

    Thanks Farees for your kind suggestion.

    You have suggested: 1. Customize barcode masking to include batch + serial number 2). create custom barcode retrieval tool. What will happen, if i created a barcode using custom utilties. How it will be read and parsed in AX core or POS. Shall i have to impl. a custom barcode reading mechanism as well or AX will manage to handle it by default.

    Checkout the below link, which discuss to custom BarcodeCode128 or BarcodeEAN128 classes for generating such barcodes. Please check and comment, if this can be the solution?

    you do not have to be worry about how the barcode will be read it is already implemented, just concentrate on the above two points

    there are many ways to do that. If you wanna save these complicated steps and find a easy way, you can google  barcode generator and you will find many useful tools, or google how to create barcode in c# to get instructive articles. Good luck:) I think some imaging sdk  programmes can enable to quickly generate barcodes. i have use imaging sdkr which can original layouts hyperlinks, Images and tables retained in word ,text, image, Epub, html.but i forgot download the wedsite ,go to google. By the way , pay attention to your system platform, select the suitable one . I use a barcode generator driver found on the internet . Install it and it becomes a selectable option.Then you can generate barcodes  in many formats  in any program at all, including Adobe Acrobat . Just open the sdk, select barcode, and choice a form you want, then you can generate barcode in c#, vb, asp ,etc ,the task will be finished in several seconds. if you haven't found a good choice  , you can have a try. best wishes.

    Hi,

    i don't know I am on the same page or not. But, below is the piece of code I used to generate bar code.

    display str 30 barcodeRefNum()

    {

        Barcode     barcode;

        ;

        barcode = Barcode::construct(BarcodeType::Code128);

        barcode.string(true, [Your Values]);

        barcode.encode();

        return barcode.barcodeStr();

    }

    Use this code in the section of the report where you want to have the barcode

    Change the font of the barcode control to that of the required barcode font.

    In the [Your value] section you may give Item + Qty + Price, or anything you want.
