Fill fields with external data

I am looking for a way to get data from an excel file and prepopulate fields in Wennsoft(great plains service addon).

Right now when sales gets a customer(selling services) they fill an excel file called request for service which contains information regarding the sale/job. Sales Person ID, install date, Tech Requested, Company, Customer PO Number etc.

This file is then given to the service departmentI(as a paper document if you can believe that). The service department will then retype this information into a service call.  Now the service call obviously requires more than the request for service contains because sales has no knowledge of which techs are available for a job and such. I feel, however, that much of this information is already existing in an electronic format and should not need to be retyped into the system, its redundant.

I would like to create a button or something of that nature inside GP2010 that will prompt a user to select a file(the excel "request for service") Then have the information in the excel file prepopulate the related fields in Wennsoft service manager.

I have looked at econnect and other integration methods, but they have the ability to only create the service call in the database which I do not want to do, in case of typos and also because not all required info for the service call is contained in the excel file. If it instead just fills related fields the other required fields(ticket number, technicianID, ServicePersonID, etc and then finish the work ticket having it added into the database upon completion as normal.

Is there any way to accomplish this?

I thought about maybe needing to parse the file, or even create a seperate DB which holds the request for service information, but I do not even have the motivation to proceed unless I can find solid information on if these methods will work, or if there is an easier way. VST for GP maybe to make the button? I am not sure

Thanks.
