AOS service terminated unexpectedly

Hi All,

We have a couple of instance that AOS went down unexpectedly.

I checked on the event logs and found the following logs.

System logs

The Microsoft Dynamics AX Object Server 6.0$01-AXPRD service terminated unexpectedly.  It has done this 4 time(s).

Application Log

The description for Event ID 180 from source Microsoft Dynamics AX cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

If the event originated on another computer, the display information had to be saved with the event.

The following information was included with the event:

Microsoft Dynamics AX Business Connector Session 50.

RPC exception 1722 in Ping occurred in session 61 ,process: Ax32.exe ,thread: 13908

I did some search and it was pointing that BC unable to communicate with AOS server.

Anyone experience the same error previously?

Thanks in advance.

Regards,

Ivan

    RE: AOS service terminated unexpectedly

We face similar problem, but in that scenario, we have database and AOS on separate machines. There is some network connectivity problem between both servers, we have to apply dns flush command and AOS successfully communicate with Database server. Please also verify that Sql server's evaluation period is not expired.

    Hi All,

Thanks for all your responses. Great discussion on application and kernel version update stuff.

Definitely quite tricky to figure out what causes AOS to crash as there are not much clue I can find on the event logs.

    Hi Klaas,

You have quite a list there. :)

I did try the DebugDiag previously in our DEV environment but didn't really help.

We are running on the following kernel and application version.

    Kernel version: 6.0.1108.3529

    Application version: 6.0.1108.2423

    Regards,

    Ivan

The RPC exception 1722 is probably just the client giving an error because it is unable to contact the AOS.

I would suggest the same as Denis, try a new kernel version. It's the quickest (cheapest) way and will probably fix your problem. What kernel are you running?

You can also create a crash dump and then analyse it to see what goes wrong, check this link: blogs.msdn.com/.../possibilities-to-create-memory-dumps-from-crashing-processes.aspx

There are probably a thousand reasons why an AOS can crash, some things I suspect of crashing the aos:

    • Kernel mismatch between client and aos
    • Users activating and deactivating AIF integration ports on live systems
    • Users changing code on live systems
    • Users running CIL compilation on live systems
    • Infinite loops?
    • Kernel bugs
    • Running on unsupported OSes
    • Unreliable network (eg aos looses connection to sql?)
    • Low memory?
    • Running on old versions of virtualization software (eg VMware is out of date)
    • The time on server machines out of sync (one machine is 1 second ahead or in a different timezone)
    • ...

    Just thinking out loud... :)

    Hi Jonathan

You are right about update also Application.

But due to many customizations, isn't so easy update also the Application.

So, according to the issue, you can update only Kernel. This activity for sure isn't time consuming.

Again, about kernel and application version, you could faced issues if the Application version is more high than kernel and no viceversa.

    RE: AOS service terminated unexpectedly

I Ivan. The BC proxy error is really just an error saying that the business connector cannot connect to AX (due to the the AOS crashing). I doubt the BC connector is the actual issue. Try and detect what actions in AX cause the crash or investigate your event log for any other clues as to what may have happened before the crash. Our cause was because we used the Data Import Export Framework on an unsupported version of Dynamics AX. It took us quite a while to figure out as there were not too many other clues.

    Hi Denis.

Generally one should match kernel version an App version as far as possible as they do rely on each other unless specifically stated otherwise. We've quite often gotten errors when having too new Kernel versions compared to Application versions.

    RE: AOS service terminated unexpectedly

    Hi Ivan

The Kernel hotfix can be applied without update the Application.

Is enough run the update on ALL AX Components, like AOS, Client, BC, etc.

Usually, Microsoft release more kernel update than application.

So, when we face Crash of some AX components the first thing to do is update with the last kernel version.

If you open a case on MS, also them ask you to update the kernel as the first thing.

    Hi Denis,

    Thanks for the reply.

Any consideration I need to looks into before updating the kernel with the latest version?

Does it require to update the Application version as well or updating kernel version and application version don't usually go hand-in-hand?

    Regards,

    Ivan

    Hi Jonathan,

    Thanks for the input.

We are currently running on SQL Server 2012 SP1.

May I check how did you manage to resolve the same errors in AX before?

    Regards,

    Ivan
