Adjustment journal is used to adjust the quantity of inventory in 1 warehouse.

Movement journal is used to move inventory from 1 location / site / warehouse to another location/site/warehouse.

Counting journal is the post the quantity counted, it will create adjustment if needed on the basis of counting.

    Hi RS,

In addition to what Syed and Sukrut mentioned, there is a difference in accounting.

The adjustment and counting journal make use of the accounts that have been setup in the inventory posting matrix. That is, you can't directly influence the ledger accounts that will be used.

This is different for the movement journal that allows you specifying an offset account. It is this ability that some people like to have for example when they move items the first time to AX because you can select a stock movement account that can be used for reconciling purposes.

Another difference between the adjustment and stock counting journal is that the first one adjusts the quantity that is there while the second one overwrites it.

Example: You have 20 pcs on stock and post an adjustment journal with a quantity of 5 pcs => after posting the journal 25 pcs are on stock.

If you do the same with a counting journal => 5 PCs are on stock after posting the journal.

    Best regards,

    Ludwig
