Error: contoso\AosServiceUser is not a valid managed service account installed on this computer.

Hi,

I am trying to install AX2013R3 (CU12) silently.

It is failing with the error:

2017-10-06 13:13:46Z	Setup cannot continue. The command line parameter AosAccount contains the invalid value 'contoso\AosServiceUser'.
2017-10-06 13:13:46Z	Error: contoso\AosServiceUser is not a valid managed service account installed on this computer.

The silent install is running on an Azure VM on the same subnet as a domain controller built using Life Cycle Services (LCS), therefore all the AD user accounts were created by LCS scripts. (LCS scripts have successfully deployed DEV and SQL instances with the domain contoller).

I have done some research into these "Managed Service Accounts" and can find no existence to them on any of the VMs built by LCS, so I assume the term refers to something else in the realm of AX as opposed to AD. E.g. there appears to be no KDS key configured on them.

I have even tried deleting AosServiceUser and creating a new account with a different name and promoting the accounts to local administrators on the VM.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

T, W.

So reading the parameters reference again :

    AosAccount

Specify the account that the Windows service for AOS runs as. The AOS instance uses this account to connect to the Microsoft Dynamics AX database.

If you specify an account, the value must be in the format domain\account. You can’t specify your own account or a local computer account. You can specify a managed service account that is installed on the computer. To specify a managed service account, use the format domain\ServiceAccountName$.

    AosAccountPassword

Specify the password that is associated with the AOS account.

If you use a managed service account, this parameter isn’t required.

If you use a standard domain account, you must specify a value for this parameter if you specify a value for the AosAccount parameter.

So I, nor LCS are using "Managed Service Accounts", so I needed to specify the AosAccountPassword.

How did I miss that? 4 hours wasted!!!
