How is everyone supporting outsourced marketing campaign activities?

We outsource our direct marketing (one-2-one) campaign activities and do not utilize MS Dynamics CRM to execute emails and direct mail (letters).

How is everyone updating the lead and contact activity history to include this outsource activity?

Specifically we would like to see this date and activity type presented within each Lead and Contact record included within the Campaign (we export the Marketing List to our outsourced vendor).  Ideally it would be great if we could also include an image of the email or direct mail along with the activity date and type, so our field sales personnel would be able to correlate the activity to the campaign tactic.

For background purposes - if you click the Distribute Campaign Activity the system wants to actually distribute the activity, which is not what we wish to do as we only want to record the activity type and date.

I have conducted several searches within MS and Internet to no avail, so your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

    Hey,

Essentially, you want to replace the standard Distribute function with something of your own so you have more control of what is created, right?

I would create a Custom Activity called "Outsourced Marketing" (or similar).  Create a workflow activity that creates the new custom activity for all marketing list members for a specified Campaign Activity.  Either replace the Distribute button with logic to execute your workflow, or train users to run the workflow instead of clicking the distribute button.  The same workflow can also generate the file that you would send to your marketing outsourcing provider.

    Good luck!

If you are supplying an external vendor a list of Leads or Contacts - I would setup a Marketing List/Campaign Naming convention so that it will be easy for the sales personnel to see which Campaign the Leads/Contacts are part of - this should be enough.  No need to distribute any campaign activity.  For reference to the campaign message - I would include that in the Campaign record and show the sales personal how to access for reference.  Keep it simple.
