I am in touch with someone who is looking for software to manage and track inventory items they would be sending to a customer via a distributor. The customer is looking for software that will have serial number tracking and setup with automatic notifications regarding expiration of the items that are shipping so a refill/replenishment procedure is initiated. The data fields he is looking forward to be tracked are:
Serial Number
Expiration
Customer information (address, name, phone #, etc)
Shipment information
Replenishment dates
Calibration reminder for equipment shipped.
and growth for additional fields.
The customer already has Great Plains Dynamics in place. My question is: does this sound like something Dynamics can do, or be customized to do? Or do they need to develop a custom piece of software?

Jeff, the only item above that may need an additional module, is the 'Calibration reminder for shipped equipment'. The Field Service module, which includes equipment maintenance scheduling, may be required. It looks like the other requirements could be handled with the standard distribution modules (SOP, POP, Inventory).

GP will do all of this out of the box. They may need an additional module or two, depending on what modules they currently own.
