Hi,

While migrating data from one system to another, like old crm system to new crm system, what are the essential steps we need to follow in order to process this effectively.

hi, When you say old CRM to new CRM there are lots of questions come to my mind.

if you are upgrading CRM you don't need to manually migrate data.

if you have new instance of CRM (already installed and ready) but need to bring some old data in that need to be well planed, because old data need to be compatible for new data (specially if you have custom fields or custom entities)

and  linked data (entity  references / lookup fields) might lose the data

if you just need to import some basic data for example say you want to import accounts from old to new - then export from old and import to new and using mapping fields wizard to map fields  because fields names might not be same in two CRMs

you have to consider Option sets values - as if your new CRM does not have matching option set values  you may lose data or import incorrect data into those fields

hope this gives you bit of head around to start migration process :)

Data migration is the process of moving data from one location to another, one format to another, or from one application to another. Generally, this is the result of introducing a new system or location for the data.

    Types of data migration

There are numerous business advantages to upgrading systems or extending a data center into the cloud. For many firms, this is a very natural evolution. Companies using the cloud are hoping that they can focus their staff on business priorities, fuel top-line growth, increase agility, reduce capital expenses, and pay for only what they need on demand. However, the type of migration undertaken will determine how much IT staff time can be freed to work on other projects.

First, let’s define the types of migration:

Storage migration. The process of moving data off existing arrays into more modern ones that enable other systems to access it. Offers significantly faster performance and more cost-effective scaling while enabling expected data management features such as cloning, snapshots, and backup and disaster recovery.

Cloud migration. The process of moving data, applications, or other business elements from either an on-premises data center to a cloud or from one cloud to another. In many cases, it also entails a storage migration.

Application migration. The process of moving an application program from one environment to another. This may include moving the entire application from an on-premises IT center to a cloud, moving between clouds, or simply moving the application's underlying data to a new form of the application hosted by a software provider.

    Greetings,
