Our company is looking at moving to a cloud based Great Plains software. Has anyone recently switched from in-house managed Great Plains to a Cloud based infrastructure? How was your experience and are there any issues to be concerned about during the transition?
Any recommendations of vendors (especially in the MidWest area) would be greatly appreciated!

There are so many options when it comes to going to the Cloud I think the actual choice of vendor is not the first thing to consider. First is you should think about the type of cloud. Do you want to be in a public or private cloud? Public clouds are less expensive but since you are sharing resources with others security can be an issue as your access will be limited. With a private cloud that space is yours and yours alone so you should have full administrative rights to do as you please. For those firms who have personnel that are used to being administrators this would be a must. Another issue is choice of configuration. You want to be able to choose your processors and hard drive space and speed of hard drives. Another important issue is this a managed or unmanaged server. Do you have your own IT staff who can help with questions or will you rely on the host provider for help desk assistance? Now Rose ASP and myGPcloud are hosters who are also GP people so you can get GP assistance as well. Then there is Microsoft Azure. We have a relationship with Turnkey Internet and have several clients on their servers. Our clients in the cloud almost never call about server issues as moving to the cloud is just the foundation. One more important issue is one of backups. Make sure you have cloud to cloud backups in the event your image fails.
