Microsoft Dynamics GP (Archived)

Install file

Posted on by Microsoft Employee

Hi,

I have just taken over as IT manager for a company and we have now moved to SAP, the companies CFO asked me if she could still access the GP 2016 files as we have been audited and she needs information from it. So I can’t find the original CDs or download link to install on a virtual machine. She has given me the final backup copy of the file but I need the setup files to be installed first before I can restore the backup. Can someone please send me a link to download it. It is urgent.  Thanks

    Hi,

If you can look up data in SQL, you can determine the version and build number by looking in the DU00010 table or the DB_UPGRADE table in the DYNAMICS (GP System) database.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie

The other option is whether the information can simply be accessed via SQL - either directly or via Excel / Crystal / SSRS.  Can you just set the database up in SQL and find the information from there?  It would depend on what information is needed.  If it is simply querying transactions, that may work.  If it is doing things like reprinting an Historical Aged Trial balance, then probably not.

The above link uses your Microsoft Account (formerly Windows Live Account) to access CustomerSource.

Thanks Mariano, the problem now is the download of it. We can’t login into the customer portal to download it from the link as we can’t find the user name or password. We have searched the  old it managers emails and also the safe where we keep original CDs. But nothing has turned up. We are thinking that the old CEO purchased it and it’s in his emails but unfortunately we are unable to open his emails due to company polices. Could would you know how else I could get a copy or download it from another site? Thanks again.

There are a couple challenges you will face, the first of which is not knowing the actual build number of Dynamics GP 2016 the databases are in. I would suggest you start by downloading a lower build number, then go up from there to avoid having to do a full table update:

    First things first...

    1. You will want to run GP Utilities to create both the system and company database(s). Please be sure to name these exactly as the original databases from which you will be restoring

    2. Once you create the system and company database(s). Restore the backup set from the database files you have. Note: you may need to synchronize the dictionary again, since, chances are, no one will remember what the account framework was.

    3. Launch GP Utilities to determine if the dictionary build number matches that of the database. If they don't match, you can go to the service pack page to apply the proper service pack.

Good luck and feel free to post back.
