Managed objects in an Unmanaged Solution

A client has been deploying Security Roles from Dev to Production using Unmanaged Solutions.  They now want to remove some of the Security Roles from the Solution (and Dev and Production)

I've been looking into whether there would be any issues with this.  I don't have any issues with Unmanaged objects in the Solution, but there are also some Managed objects in there.  I don't quite understand how they got there, and how they could be removed?

Has anyone got experience with this?

    Hello,
please clarify which solution does have "managed" objects (live or prod)? Normally the native CRM objects (like accounts, contacts or predefined CRM roles) would be shown in the CRM as Managed objects.
    If it's a native role/entity - you can't delete it.
If it's a custom managed entity/role - you can delete it only by installing another managed solution (or by uninstalling managed solution that brought that role/entity.)

I haven't got access to the Dev System.  If I go into the Solution, or Customise, on the Production system there are several custom Security Roles which are managed.

So, how do I remove a Managed custom Security Role if I haven't got the original Managed Solution?

    Hi,

managed components often get included into unmanaged solutions. As long as those managed components have been deployed in both environments, it's not a problem. You can't always delete them without deleting the whole managed solution - it depends on whether customizations have been allowed on those components. With the security roles, you may be able to delete them or you may not, but you'll have to do it outside of your unmanaged solution - use "customize the system" to try to delete the roles or delete the whole managed solution that contains those roles, and do it in all environments.

    Hi CRM001,

Since the Security Roles you would like to delete from Production were imported using an Unmanaged solution.  Therefore, you can do the following.

    1. Since the "Solution" is "Unmanaged", deleting the solution itself doesn't delete the components inside it.  Therefore, it doesn't matter that there are other Managed components inside the Unmanaged solution.

    2. Simply open the Default Solution by navigating to Settings > Customization > Customize the system and expand Security Roles and delete the custom "Unmanaged" security roles that you don't need anymore.
