[AX 2012 R3] Inventory Movement Last Put Directive Code

Hi,

Can someone help me how to do inventory movement from one location to other specific location but destination location is directed by system? If I go to work template and choose work order type as inventory movement and I only make a pair of pick and put, but last put work template line won't allow me to fill directive code. I can fill last put directive code if my work order type is sales orders, but not if inventory movement.

I already make a new mobile device menu item for movement which parameter directed by is "user directed", so if I create inventory movement work from location, I can access work movement from mobile device. What I need is a mobile device that is able to suggest a destination location. Since I can't fill last put directive code in my last line of inventory movement work template, is there a way to do it?

Thanks.

Why do you specifically want to fill in the directive code on it?

As far as I remember, it's not supported for Inventory movement work templates.

My customer sells non batched items and they are a trading company. What they do currently is put incoming goods in inbound transit area and put it there and could be for days. What they do in those days is they match it to sales order, if a sales order need those items then they only need to move it to outbound transit area to deliver it for their customer than put it in a bulk area and pick from bulk area and move to outbound transit area. Their inbound docks and outbound docks are side-by-side.

What I'm trying to do is when goods coming is to "put away" in inbound transit area so the work can be closed. After a few days and there is no sales order to allocate anymore, I would suggest them to move their inventory from inbound transit area to bulk area. Currently, when they do this, their legacy system is able to suggest which location are available (based on location capacity and item). In AX, as you previously said in another thread, suggest location using location directive but when I try to configure it for inventory movement, they won't allow me.

Another case which similar is, my customer sells a kitted item. So they mix some items in a "production" area. They pick items from bulk area or inbound transit area and move it to "production" area. After the goods is mixed, they can move it to bulk area to store it or they can move it to outbound transit area if a sales order needs it. If they move it to bulk area, their legacy system also able to suggest which location to put based on location capacity and item.

Do you have a suggestion for this case?

    Thanks.

What does your mobile device menu item look like?

You should use the "Movement by template" work creation process.

You can see a good example of how a similar thing is done in standard demo data on warehouse 51. The only difference is that your "opportunistic cross-docking" area is a quality inspection area in the demo data example.

The menu item to look at is called "QMS create put-away", and it is responsible for creating an inventory movement to the BULK area using the corresponding location directive.

Note the use of directive code for this case on the menu item and location directive.

Hi Ivan, sorry for my late response, I was sick.

I try to follow "QMS create put-away" setup. It works. My work points to location which I tend to deliver if I view it from AX. But one problem remains, from mobile device, when I click suggest location, they return nothing. I attach my setup. Please kindly advice.

Hey Jefry, hope you feel better by now.

I've looked at the file, the data looks OK

(I don't see if Allow split is marked on the location directive line - if you are moving more than 100 ea at a time, you would need to have that set)

Do I understand correctly, that the location is shown correctly as 01R05S or similar on the inventory movement work that is created?

If yes, then please describe what actions you take on the mobile device more precisely - you would not need to use "Suggest location" in that case.

If no, see above about splitting work, as well as check the work creation history log for any errors

Thanks Ivan, I'm much better now.

Yes, I set allow split on my directive line.

On my second thought, you're right, since AX already correctly points to location which suit my location profile and capacity, I don't really need suggest location from my mobile device, unless there is a gap between physical location and on-hand in AX, but that's another story I think.
