Management Reporter emailed reports error "This site can't be reached"

Hi,

My client has remote store managers who are NOT MR users, but they are set up in the company Active Directory.

We added the store managers to the appropriate levels of the tree. When we email the report, managers inside the company (logged into the network on site) can open the reports fine. However, managers outside the company get the "This Site can't be reached" error.

What are we missing?

Thanks,

Linda

    Hello Linda,

Based on the message provided, it sounds like the MR server cannot be contacted by the user.

    Please check the following:

    1. The full MR version number being used.

    2. The report URL is correct and can be opened by a user logged into the local network.

    3. The remote user is able to communicate with the MR server using some technology like a VPN. For example, the user should be able to PING the server (assuming a ping is not blocked on their network).

    4. The remote user opening the report URL is logged into their computer with their domain account which is added to MR Security.

    Thanks!

    Hi Josh,

    Here's the scoop:

    Hi,

My client has store managers who are on the company Active Directory for email purposes, but do not log into the network.

We wish to automatically distribute the HTML version of the reports to these users as they do not have the Report Viewer installed.

We set them up in Management Reporter Security as Viewers. We also added them to the appropriate levels of the tree.

When these users receive an email with the reports attached, they get "This Site cannot be reached"

How can we email these out so that the users can read them. We are talking about 120 + store managers who all have multiple store reports. So, it's a big deal to print and scan . . .

    Thanks!

    Linda

    Hello Linda,

The customer will want to determine what their requirements are for their reporting needs. For example, do they want to retain the security of the reports using MR Security and the ability for the drill down into reports? Or are they not concerned about security or drill down and would rather see the data in Excel? Those are some good starting questions for you to discuss with them.

    Thanks!

Thanks Josh. Do you know how other users provide MR reports to large numbers of off-site report consumers?

RE: Management Reporter emailed reports error "This site can't be reached"

    Hello Linda,

MR report viewers need to: be configured in Management Reporter Security with an Active Directory account with the minimum Viewer role; be logged into a domain joined computer with an Active Directory domain account to validate user security for the report; have access to the domain's network to be authenticated against the domain's domain controller; and have the ability to communicate with the MR server which is delivering the content of the report. A common way of accomplishing this is to use a VPN so remote users have access to domain resources just as if they were logged into the local network.

Please keep in mind that the intent of the MR web viewer is not to allow for external access to the reports from anywhere on the internet, but is for use on an internal network (intranet). MR is not certified to be secure and used externally, and exposing the MR report/server on a public URL could result in unauthorized access to financial data.

    Thanks!
