Management Reporter Building Blocks

ReportReport

OK I was able to rebuild the database and migrate them to a new server - when importing the Building Blocks it imports as a list.  For ex: the original database has reports organized in folders (10 folders with each folder having several reports) .  But when the reports are imported it does not import folders names just a long list of reports.

Is there any way to import them with the same folder structure?

Also is there any way to import the users?

Thanks

I had the same problem and couldn't find a solution so I just wound up creating the folders and dragged & dropped the reports into each folder respectively. I also manually recreated the users and permissions.

MR will only export rows, columns, trees, and report definitions.  They will not export with the folder structure you have set up.

Users cannot be exported.  You would need to manually add them to MR.

You should migrate the whole database to a new server in order to keep the users and securities from the old server, you still need to recreate folders in Viewer if report output & distribution not to set to the default, then you need to point those reports in designer Output & Distribution tab to map to its Output Locations folder respectively. You need to reschedule reports if you had before. There are some works needed to be done even you bring the whole database to a new server but it will save your time.

Microsoft stopped enhancing MR so there are no more tools will be added, the import building blocks tool will be nice if it includes the choice to bring user, security, viewer folders and etc,. I thought about to use BCP to bring some tables from the old server but it takes time too.

I did many times as Michael did.

Hope Microsoft has an answer here.

Before Exporting the building blocks, you need to take a screen shot of the structure. Importing will not organize the reports as before.
