Re-Close Exploded BOMs

Hi,

I'm looking for a method to re-close the exploded BOMs... we need to have the BOMs exploded for purchase and sales orders, but is there a way that we can close the BOMs to just show the original item again for the invoice and packing list?

For example, a lock and key kit explodes into separate locks and keys, but can this be closed back into the kit?

Hi

You could, with a small customization, mark the lines of the original product, and in the report print these "marked" lines and not the detail.

Anyway, let's wait for other colleagues' comments and their points of view.

Out of the box its not possible to re-close an exploded BOM without manually deleting the lines and re-adding the top level item. gdrenteria's solution would work best - a developer can customize the reports. You could add an option in the report request page to print the top level item or the exploded BOM items.

This is a good idea and I suggest you submit it to Microsoft. However, as the two experts mentioned above, this cannot be done in the current standard and needs to be customized.

yeah this would require development.
Additionally to previously mentioned options, I think You would also need to modify the Explode BOM process, that it leaves information in the exploded lines about the Original Item No. (I think in standard after exploding bom, there is no refferences of the original item left in the lines).

In Business Central, standard functionality does not provide a way to re-close exploded BOMs automatically. To achieve this, you would typically need to either manually handle the BOM lines or implement a custom solution to reassemble the BOM for reporting or invoicing purposes.
