how do you determine employee count from SUTA Summary reports?

Our business is in MD and we are required to submit the "MD state unemployment insurance Total Employee Count" with our quarterly taxes. The last page of the SUTA summary report has an employee count. Do you use that employee count number or do you go through the report and count everyone that had wages in the quarter and use that number instead?
