slow response time entering GL Transactions

I have recently received complaints for my accounting group about slow performance entering GL transactions. from what I observe, it takes between 15 - 30 seconds to move from field to field. How to i identify GL table use to hold these transactions before they are posted and how do i  maintain these tables to get better performance.

Slow performance can be many different things.   Here is a list to start with..

    1) Network - is it only GP or is it all apps?

    2) Local and server temp files.   Has the SQL server been rebooted lately?  Can it be?

    3) Are there modifications to windows and reports?   Are these files on local workstations or on the server in a shared location?

    4) In the Dex.ini, is the OLEPath= line UNC or drive letter pathed.  It should be a drive letter path.

Then some other misc questions such as: Did this start to happen all of a sudden?   Or build up to this point?   Has a recent upgrade taken place?   Are workstations up to minimum requirement standards?

Thanks for your quick response. Answers below:

1.GP is the on apps running on the this server

2.yes we i have rebooted the serever in the last week. yes it can be.

    3. No modifications been made  over 6 monts. Gp client is running on the local workstations

    4. I will check the drive path in the Dex.in, but I am sure it's a drive letter path

no, there where no recent upgrades and yes - it was a slow build up.  I will recehck the workstation requirement, but I'm sure we meet the min requirement.

    Thanks again

    LeonJ,

You might also check your hard drives and where you have things stored. Everything should not be on the same physical drive if you want to optimize performance. Make sure you are not running out of space.

Look at where the trans logs vs the database are stored as well as the swap file.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
