How to prevent manual data input in drop-down menu fields.

Posted on by 16

Hello BC community!

On the customer card the field "Post Code" is related to the underlying "Post Codes" master table and users can pick an option from that master.

But the field also accepts any manual text input from the user.

Is there a way (through AL code or UI settings) to limit data input in this field (or any other master table related field) to the options from the underlying master?

Any input would be highly appreciated!

Thanks in advance,

Jakob

    Hi,

This is base feature which disable table data validation in case of Post code and city field.

You can create Custom Post Code field and fill the value in original filed at the time of entering the value in Custom field. Your requirement achieved in this way.

Thank you for the quick reply Josh!

I checked in the Base application and the ValidateTableRelation property is indeed set to false. Unfortunately, when I try to modify the field I get an error telling me that this property can not be modified. Maybe it is protected for some reason?

    Thanks!

Altering this property for that field is a starting point: docs.microsoft.com/.../devenv-validatetablerelation-property
