You can try to use the BOM Routing Link function and link the phantom subassembly to the routing sequence of the finished good. This way all of the phantom subassembly component will be linked to the routing location. Manufacturing checks if a Bill of Materials (BOM) routing link exists between a component item (phantom subassembly) and a routing sequence in the BOM Routing Link window. If the link exists, the default issue-to site is the Work Center ID that is assigned to the sequence number in the Routing Sequence Entry window. You can then try to use the Traveler’s Reports with Components to see the items. BOM Routing link to match up the material to the routing sequence in the process. This is at Transactions >> Manufacturing >> Bill of Materials >> BOM/Rtg Link. However if you have multiple level phantom BOMs you would need to create a custom report to get this information.
We have a top level BOM with several levels of assembly's (phantom BOMs) and routings set up for all these phantom BOMs.....there must be someway to lnk the components on the phantom BOM to the routing??
As for the pulling from the default site\bin of the component..where would that be in the tables associated in the existing picklist?
The picking ticket (for manufacturing orders, I assume) can be modified to show the bin locations or (as I do) an SSRS or Crystal document created that shows the available bins. Most people use a scanning system to pull inventory and that system can tell the picker where items are located.
If you want to see the phantom items on the bom you will need to use a custom report and the task is more complex. The picking ticket for the MO only contains the actual components needed and not the phantom that they might belong to. This will require going back to the original BOM for the parent and exploding it for the MO.
