Payroll solution

Our company is going to shift to Business Central 365. I have the following questions,

Why do we need to choose a vendor who is a Microsoft Gold Partner? And what are the benefits?

BC 365 has no built in payroll module. Why it is necessary for us to choose a gold partner who has already a registered payroll solutions with Microsoft?

If we are going to choose a provider who is not a gold partner and who has no registered payroll solution, can we rely on them? What do you think are the consequences, problems, errors, etc. the accountant might face in the financial reporting when the Microsoft does their updates?

Being the accounting in charge of the company and as the main user of the system, I have a high confidence with a gold partner who has registered payroll solution, however, it is unfortunate that some staff inside the company prefer to get the services from the provider who is not a gold partner and has no viable payroll solutions at all. It is so disappointing.

I highly appreciate your thoughts and comments.

Thank you.

    RE: Payroll solution

Gold partner status doesn’t affect the payroll selection process as payroll solutions are provided by Independent Software Vendor (ISVs). However, you need to choose a registered payroll solution as payroll management is of critical nature. For instance, if you’re in UK, then you need a payroll solution recognised by HMRC.

There are several payroll software options from Microsoft recognised partners on the market, but Sirius Payroll 365 has the highest rating in the Microsoft App Source and is considered one of the best. The payroll solution is designed to automate and streamline payroll tasks. The software addresses a gap in the market for an affordable and simple-to-use payroll solution that works with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, which is priced at just £1/employee/month.

In a gist, Sirius Payroll 365 simplifies payroll management and processing, keeps your organisation compliant with the legislation and brings your payroll, financial and employee data together. It has all the functionalities you look for in a payroll namely P11D submissions, multi-company, multi-currency setup, automatic payslip generation, payroll reporting, and so on. You can find more information about it on their website> SiriusPayroll365 and also opt for a trial.

    RE: Payroll solution

As a non-gold partner (by choice), I'll give you a little behind the scenes information.  The gold designation is not given to a partner because they have demonstrated expert abilities in the software.  Rather the Gold designation is "earned" by paying for a support plan with Microsoft.  There are some minor other requirements, but they are easy to accomplish if you are willing to pay Microsoft for their support plan.

As a "silver" partner, and not relying on Microsoft for support, the gold designation does not change our ability to deliver excellent service to our clients.  Unfortunately, the gold designation does improve your positioning in AppSource, so it is largely a marketing tactic.

In regards to payroll, there are really two (more if you're in Canada) ISVs (non-resellers) who have a payroll solution.  Those payroll solutions are sold through the partner channel and can often be deployed by the developer of the payroll solution.  So selecting a partner who has their own payroll solution potentially locks you in to that specific partner.  If their ability to support the rest of your business is unsatisfactory you could end up stuck with them.

You need to find out if your partner has a history of supporting clients with your similar needs.  Don't settle on a partner until you find one that knows your business.

Obviously, I am bias against the silver/gold designations, but that is because I know they really are more for marketing than demonstrated capability.

In the case of payroll it is worth noting the solutions can be a fair size. Some apps do require you to work with specific partners. The author of the app will direct you accordingly. Often this is geography based.

I’d flip the logic and say find your solution and then the partner.

    RE: Payroll solution

The reasoning behind the selection of a partner can have many aspects and i know there are many partners out there who delivers excellent Business Central services without being a gold partner with Microsoft.

When it comes to the payroll solution it is important to understand that if the solution is available on AppSource you can still purchase it from the partner who is not your main partner.

There are lots of Business Central customers that works with solutions or add on's delivered by several different partners.
