How to Transfer Invoices Reports to Microsoft Word

Hello GP Experts,

I'm fairly new to GP as an accounting user, but I'm used to writing GP custom reports in SSRS and Crystal Reports.

We're using GP 10.0 SP 4. We actually don't have SQL Reporting Server set up yet for GP; however, is there a way to transfer an Invoice Report to Microsoft Word? I know this feature is implemented in GP 2010, but is there a way to do it in GP 10 yet?

One way that I can see is by creating a Crystal Report that asks for Invoice Number as the input parameter, and then export the report to Word from there. However, I find this transferring very slow on the client. Is there actually a more direct way than this?

Thanks very much for your help, greatly appreciate it!

Here is a link to upgrade documentation: https://mbs.microsoft.com/customersource/documentation/setupguides/gp2010_upgrade.

And some other helpful links for GP 2010: http://victoriayudin.com/resources/gp-2010-resources/.

Leslie and Victoria, thank you for your answers.

We're deciding to upgrade from GP 10 to GP 2010 for this export to Word feature. We're going to practice the upgrade process in a test server first. I'm still looking for a documentation to upgrade from GP 10 to GP 2010; does anyone know a link to a guide for this upgrade?

Thank you very much for your help, greatly appreciate it!

    Hi Elizabeth,

Leslie asks a good question - why does the invoice need to be transfered to Word?  This is the first I have heard of anyone wanting to do something like that.

For some more options - my company makes a GP add-on that lets you print Crystal and SSRS reports directly from GP:  http://www.flex-solutions.com/gpreports.html.  The solution includes a sample SOP invoice in both SSRS and Crystal, so you would not have to create your own if you don't have one yet, just tweak the sample one to add your logo and address.

    Hi Elizabeth,

The Word add-in functionality is only available for GP 2010. Even then, the information is still coming from Report Writer. There are 3rd party products available that will allow you to print an invoice generated from Crystal within the GP user interface. Accountable Software has a product called Forms Printer that provides this function. Why do they want it in Word? If you can get the data from a Query into Crystal, you could use this view as your data source in a Mail Merge document in Word.

    Kind regards,

    Leslie
