GP is crashing when launched on 2 workstations

Posted on by 88

We started with problems where several workstations crashed when printing orders, pick tickets and packing slips.  That problem seems to be sensitive to network logins. First thing we did was load the latest MS Windows patches on all the workstations.

We use named printers and found that the problem was resolved on most workstations if we imported the named printers from a working workstation.  There are still 2 workstations that crash as soon as GP is launched.  We have loaded the latest MS patch 20H2 build 19042.906 and no change. Nothing seems to consistent about this because one other workstation has that same Windows 10 patch/build and is working fine.  I've tried renaming the reports.dic, uninstalling and reinstalling GP and no change.

The event viewer error we get when GP crashes is as follows:

Faulting application name: Dynamics.exe, version: 16.0.34.0, time stamp: 0x58796c6c
Faulting module name: ntdll.dll, version: 10.0.19041.844, time stamp: 0xa9ac4e88
Exception code: 0xc0000374
Fault offset: 0x000e6a73
Faulting process id: 0x1f08
Faulting application start time: 0x01d72d8417937fc9
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Dynamics\GP2016\Dynamics.exe

Report Id: a22e2835-ddda-4979-b1a5-ee49c61dcfc3
Faulting package full name:
Faulting package-relative application ID:

Sure hope someone has something I can try, I'm out of ideas!!!

Thank you in advance for your help.

    Hi Peggy,

Named Printers in GP can be very touchy.. especially if you're pointing to some local printers and/or use shared network printers, but the naming is not consistent across the board on all GP clients.

One way to get this consistent across the board is to use GP PowerTools that has a feature to maintain DEX.ini entries equal on all GP clients, thus making sure the naming is the same everywhere, and it can be managed centrally.

GPPT has many other features that are worthwhile the annual subscription if you've more than 1 GP company and are very security conscious around GP.

Have a look at the latest videos: winthropdc.wordpress.com/.../

Elena Papio,  YOU get the GOLD STAR!!!  Copying the code from a working workstation to the workstation that crashes worked!   And it pointed me to the problem being NAMED PRINTERS. I copied the entire folder from the working workstation with included the NAMED PRINTER statement in the Dex.ini file.   I removed the Named Printer references from the Dex.ini file and that's when I found that the printers aren't consistent across all workstations.  The problem was created when we imported the named printer setup from a workstation the workstation we're importing to MUST also have that exact printer.  I'm getting with IT tomorrow to try to get the printers consistent among all workstations.  I'll let you know it there is another issue after that.  But, I think we'll be fine.

Thanks You SO MUCH for taking your time to help me!

When you say: crashing on two stations, can we assume GP is working on at least 1 other station?

If yes, can you try to copy the GP code from the other station?

    Steps:

    1. Backup the code on the faulty station (right click on the GP shortcut you use to launch, click Open file location until you find the location of the .exe file of GP... move up the folder to you can copy and backup the existing - but maybe faulty - code).

    2. Do the same on the working station, and copy the entire folder to the faulty station.

    3. Compare the dex.ini, the dynamics.set, dynsa.set : make sure the path is the same as that on the ini and set files of the faulty code.

    4. Update the ini and set files on the code folder that you just copied to the faulty station.

*I suggest do first on one station and verify it can resolve the issue before doing it on the 2nd faulty station as well.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck!

    Elena

    Lisa,

Thanks so much for taking the time to answer my question but I've recreated the Reports.dic many times.  I wish it was that easy!!!

Step 1:  Recreate the forms and reports dictionaries.  (Yes, the darned forms dictionary can cause GP to crash when printing a report.)
