Error starting MR - "Your application settings file (user.config) appears to be corrupt..."

We have AX 2012 R2 and MR 2012 CU11 deployed on Citrix XenApp 6.5. Occasionally some users will get the following error message when they try to start Report Designer:

"Your applications settings file (user.config) appears to be corrupt. Reinstall the application to repair the file" error message.

Simply killing the Citrix session always resolves the issue. Does anybody know the actual cause of this error message and the way to permanently fix it?

    Hello Milan,

    Please check on LCS for possible causes. A number of hotfixes have been published there to overcome the issue and the detail description of those hotfixes might give some additional insights. You can also check the MR log files to see if you can get something additionally out of there.

    To overcome the Problem permanently I would try using the latest MR Version (CU15 at the Moment). Probably also check the resp. MS blog: blogs.msdn.microsoft.com/dynamics_financial_reporting

    I was suspecting upgrade would resolve issue, but was thinking there might be a quicker resolve for now.
