Edit in Excel and Open in Excel

Hi, we wanted our users to be able to export(open) data in excel but they should not be able to "Edit in Excel". We tried disabling the Edit in Excel effective permission by setting the read, insert, modify and execute columns to blank, however, the Open in Excel also disappeared. Is it possible to disable only the "edit in Excel" and leave the open in excel functioning? Can you help us with how to do it? thank you.

I have the same question (0)

There is an Edit in Excel - View permission set. Are you saying that that did not work for you?

Did you try the Excel Export Action and not give the Edit in Excel permission?

    Hi

What is you BC version? I am in BC 19.3 and have the following permissions set (by default). We have assigned Excel Export Action  and Edit in Excel to users but did not give them any of Edit permission. This way they can download but not edit.

If you do not have these permission I can export them and send them to you.

Been using and editing the Edit in Excel - View, all the time. Not knowing that the Excel Export Action was the solution. Thanks a lot! :)

Hi All, I'm a little confused with these these responses. So we also just want the user to be able to view in excel but not edit. Which of the default permission sets should I be assigning?

    Excel Export Action

    Edit in Excel - View

    Hi

Correct. Only two permissions that you named.

    Version: CA Business Central 21.0

Looks like there was a change in the latest BC version. We have been testing by adding the one permission set and this is now allowing users to view and edit in Excel. Multiple combinations in the 21.0 version, and there appears to be no way to turn off just the "Edit in Excel" export link.

Permission Sets assigned to Test Group.

Hi, maybe you can try the following. But it requires customization.

Dynamics 365 Business Central: How to disable “Edit in Excel” on a specific page

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks.
