I'm totally in the dark about what the impact of the "transition to Unified Interface" means to us

Posted on by 5

Hi,

I hope that someone can help reassure me. We use Dynamics 365 in a very simple way, a few simple form customization to the account and contact forms to add fields specific to our use and some reports. We only use it in the desktop web browser and don't use Outlook integration and we only have half a dozen people who use it.

I can't work out whether I need to schedule some training for our users and if so what that would be, or whether its just going to look slightly different to them when it migrates. I'm struggling to find this in the (very thorough) documentation that Microsoft have produced, which seems to be aimed at those who really get into development of apps in the platform.

Can anyone give me a clue?

Cheers,

Clive.

    Hello Clive,

If you have very few customizations, chances are they should keep working on Unified Interface.
My advice would be to look at forms, as they are slightly differently to users, with a tabbed navigation.

Are you using your Dynamics 365 for Sales or Customer Service scenario?
In that case, you may have "Sales Hub" or "Customer Service Hub" apps already installed on your environment.
These apps are already running on Unified Interface.

Yes you can give the access of UCI app to a specific users so that those user can work on that UCI APP and test the functionality.

UPDATE : We don't have a non-production environment in which to test, can we switch individual users to the "Unified Interface" like when these things are previewed in other areas in Office 365 so we can see what it looks like for us? I actually think I might be using it already from what I can see.

    Hi Partner,

For existing Dynamics 365 users currently working with the regular web interface the new experience is a significant change and migration to this interface should be careful planned.

Firstly, consider the different use cases in your business. Each work-stream can have its own specific Dynamics 365 app and user experience so consider which aspects of the Unified Interface, including custom controls, can best be utilized for these requirements.

To gain familiarity with custom controls and other aspects of the new experience, you can take a closer look within your non-production environment.

Microsoft recommends an initial test within a development environment using a realistic user persona where Unified Interface is enabled prior to creating a parallel test app. After mapping out the key business activities needed to managed specific scenarios, a quick check will highlight any issues or gaps that will need to be addressed in the new UI.

For example, some functions and plug-in's that you currently use may not be supported in the new experience. The legacy Dynamics 365 contracts entity and dialogs are examples of this. When legacy functions and customizations are no longer used this represents an opportunity to relaunch Dynamics 365 with an uncluttered interface.

A further step would be to create a pilot app that is used by a small user group which has the essential functionality to handle specific use cases and generate some excitement by introducing the new capabilities.

Additionally, you can refer the article which describes User experience  with Unified client Interface https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/user/unified-interface
