What are the character limits for product listing in core AX and Retail/Portal?
I am asking if the description for a particular product can be lengthier in Retail than in core AX? And what the character limits are?

If you are talking about the name of a product, it resided in the EcoResProductTranslation.Name field. It is using the EcoRedProductName extended data type, which extends the Name EDT. The Name has a default length of 60 characters, however it could be increased as per requirements. Since it is a very commonly used EDT, I would be cautious by how much do you increase its' value. Our environment has it set as 80, but I have seen it go higher i.e. for companies who concatenate Product Attributes with a lot of attributes set into the name field for easier searchability.
If you are talking about the Description of the product, it is in EcoResProductTranslation.Description, which is the EcoReProductDescription EDT with a default length of 1000 characters. It is not recommended to go much higher, I believe the longest standard AX length is the Str1260 EDT, for performance considerations.
I am unaware of what the limitations are in Retail.
